I realized I like to show my art to people and to talk about it but I lost interest in leaving it to the world. I couldn't make myself destroy my art, because I don't want to see it destroyed, but if I died, I wouldn't want it to stay for others. Why should they have it? Why should you have it?

(Please ignore the unrelatedness of the mood icon, I couldn't change it)

i'm hungry too :P

why don't you want to leave your art behind? It's a way to remember you, and to be remembered is what most people aspire to.
but really, why even worry about leaving it to the world? think about the here and now and smirk at the thought of historians in over more than 1000 years creating wild theories about you and what you left behind :P
:iconyoolchie:
It's kind of strange to me... why wouldn't you want your art to be seen after you're gone? For they could use it? Or they could judge you by your works even if you don't exist anymore? Hm. It seems to me that 'the world', the strangers never care about such things. And they can still steal your stuff since it's on the web, within easy reach.
But speaking of dead artists, long ago I saw a page that left me moved and with a little more faith in humnity.
I used to be a member of the Elfwood fantasy art site, and once I saw there a former member's profile. Her introducing text and artworks were still there, but there was a short moderator's edit which said she had passed away and always be remembered. All comments were deleted and commenting was disabled, and that ghostly commentless-ness was shocking - Elfwood people do comment a lot.

Hm, I hope all this contemplating doesn't mean you're planning to leave dA.
:iconleonor:
 I said not to notice! I'm always hungry, anyway.

Why do people aspire to be remembered, though. It doesn't bring them back to life, does it? Something mysterious about that.
:iconleonor:
Hmm, you have a point about the judgement. But what does judgement matter after I'm dead?

I remember that Elfwood member's page. I also know of *Wieringo here who died of a heart attack (look at his last post!) and another guy at conceptart.org who killed himself.

I guess they wanted to leave their art behind, though. I am not decided if I do.
:iconcrrash:
it means that you mattered, that you had an impact on the world, and that people cared about you. If you were to be forgotten it would almost be as if you had never existed...
i'm sure we could go a lot more philosophical on this :)

i'm always hungry too :P (i only noticed because you said to not notice it ;))
:iconcrrash:
while it wasn't drawings, i remember a site i found with pictures a man took on for each day, representing each day. later on he got sick (cancer?) and the pictures kind of also chronicled that. It was something like that and somehow real touching to see so many windows into someones life who passed away.
wish i still had the link.
:iconleonor:
Let's go more philosophical. And less hungry. *brings biscuit tin*

I can only eat one more biscuit today. *nibbles biscuit and :cries:*

When I die, to me it will be like I never existed. To other people I'm just an NPC in their game of life. It might be that I created knowledge that was useful to them, like past inventors did for us, but what relevance does it have to them that we know their names or their faces?
:iconcrrash:
you'd have to be an extremely bland person to be just an NPC and forgotten.
we have personalities and talents, and those ensure that we will be remembered. When we meet someone we touch their lives somehow, be it big or small, but we'll be there in their minds somewhere.
Want to be more than just that person who gave some info (which already is something worth remembering for)? then leave your art to others.

It's really not so much important to people to be remembered by name and face. The most important thing to be remembered by is our actions and what we gave of ourselves to those around us. It'll mean that we mattered, that we made people happy, that we entertained people, that we helped people.
And in turn people will want to remember your name and face, not because you wanted it, but because they wanted it.

i'll leave it at this for now, because im to going meet some friends now. i'll be back later :)
and sorry if anything is either confusing, contradicting or just weird. my mind is a very disorganised place :P
:icontanager:
I think about this regarding a lot of things... drawings, photos, etc. People didn't use to have such ready access to them - and now people have thousands upon thousands of pictures and whatnot... how long are they to be kept? With the quick "delete" - a press of a button, it's forever gone. It's kind of depressing.
